Tips To Overcome Writers Block

Writers block happens to all of us. If you haven't been blessed enough to experience it yet, just wait. It'll come.

But when it does arrive, there's no need to fret! There are ways to chug through it so don't believe all is hopeless, because it's not.

Watch movies

Sometimes it takes watching one, two, or ten movies before your creativity is recharged! I find that watching movies is one of the quickest ways for me to come up with ideas for the books I'm writing. In two or three hours (or however long the movie is), I'm able to digest the plot, jot down ideas for character development, and have at least one new idea I want to implement in the current book I'm writing.

• Read books

Studying another author's writing style is a fabulous way to generate more ideas for how to improve your own writing style. Again, take notes on what the author does that you like and study the plot. Figure out what about it entertains you. Once you do, it'll be easier to come up with scene ideas that'll engage the reader.

• Go on a walk

Get some fresh air! Nature is beautiful for a reason; enjoy it! Give yourself a mental break.

• Take a break for a few days

Don't sit down and force yourself to write; it'll only frustrate you. There's nothing wrong with taking a step back for a while! Give those creative juices time to flow again.

• Read past excerpts of books you've written

Sometimes witnessing your growth over the years will fuel motivation and push you out of writers block. It's encouraging to see how much you've improved; give yourself credit and be proud of how far you've come!

• Learn a new hobby

Take your mind completely off of writing for a while. Learn something new in the meantime to keep you occupied so you don't beat yourself up for not writing (especially if there's a deadline you need to meet).

Hopefully some of these ideas will help you navigate writers block. If you know of other things that have helped you with writers block, feel free to comment below to help others out.
